Mr. Third Husband

I think that may be my new title. Okay, back up a bit. The GNCC annual meeting was today and we have arrived home. Mrs. JH has been voted in as 2nd VP of the GNCC. It is basically an eight year path of office in the GNCC. Two years at 2nd VP, 2 years at 1st VP, 2 years as President and 2 years as immediate past President.

Not sure who was buying her the drinks or how many were involved to get her to volunteer for this. But she is on the GNCC board for a while at this point. Her first order of business was to inform me that I have to attend all the meetings as well. I guess Utica in the fall will be okay.

Anyway, the transfer of the pants in the house will take place soon.

Virtual Friday

Off tomorrow with a trip to the vets for one of the kitties. Then head up to the GNCC annual meeting in NH. Friday night cocktails at the outgoing Prez's house. Saturday is seminars including one on the 2010 Olympics. Then Sunday is the meeting. Should be fun and there will be some late nights in the cocktail lounge at the hotel I am sure. Hopefully some big news as well. More on that next week.

Preakness is Saturday. Not excited by it. Probably not gonna bet it. If I did it would be a four horse exacta box with Rachel, Mine, Friesan and Pioneer. Would throw out Papa Clem so that is probably the winner. Can't make any money off that bet so won't make it. If Friesan Fire goes off over 7-1 then a win bet on that one maybe.

Anyway, time for a cocktail I guess.

It's Official

The GNCC Men's Curling Tour was officially launched today. We have commitments from seven bonspiels to be part of the MCT. First up will be the Calder in always snowy Norfolk. Just a little more stuff for me to do this winter.

No, I didn't go to the parade today. I will celebrate from afar. Need to get a flag or something to put out in front of the house.

So, to keep me busy until pitchers and catchers report there is curling, GNCC MCT, bonspiels, the new kittie and keeping the ice good at the club. And there will be curling on TV soon which we now get to watch in HD since we upgraded the satellite receiver.

GNCC Men's curling tour

Some of the loyal readers will have heard about this. Most of the wrinkles have been worked out and the rules are being reviewed.

Basically, the existing Men's bonspiels in the GNCC are going to be used. Teams will earn points based on how well they do in the spiel and money will be given out at the end of the year. First event is the Calder in Norfolk.

Somehow I got talked into being the chair for this thing. As with most things I volunteer for there was probably beer involved. But I think it can be a positive thing for the GNCC. Those are words I usually dont say.

So for those reading in the Midwest, look out. The East is trying to get better and even bigger.

GNCC happenings

The GNCC competitive camp kicks off tonight at Nutmeg. Think they have around 32 people coming in to participate. Hopefully everything runs smoothly.

The big news that is being worked on is the establishment of a Mens GNCC curling tour. This will be a collection of current bonspiels with points awarded to teams that register. At the end of the season there will be cash prizes awarded. Details are being worked on by the rocket scientist and me. All the details will be forthcoming soon.

Early ice at Nutmeg has been a real hit. Team Gemmell has been in town, parts of Team Surka were around and lots of other folks as well.

Some people's worst nightmare

That will be the response I expect now that the LBI curling club has become a recognized club in the GNCC. Why, because I am now the GNCC rep for the LBI CC which means I get a voice and a vote. Regular readers know that I can get a little incensed about curling and especially curling politics.

Anyway, that was our big news from the GNCC annual meeting. They also passed a one dollar increase on the dues. Otherwise it was a pretty calm meeting.

We will still maintain our strict new member policy. If you want to join you better learn the secret hand signal and attendance is mandatory at the annual meeting.

By the way, did you notice I got the winner of the Preakness right?

So, did you here about the RockStar curling ? Could be really interesting and certainly can't hurt with advertising curling here. Yep, Bruce and Jon really do curl. Mrs. JHcurl has had some preliminary talks with their "people" to help them out at various times but nothing has every come of it.

The Francis Dykes 5 and under bonspiel was held this weekend and Nutmeg sent a team of newbies. They did fantastic and were the runner-up in the second event. Lost the first game and then went on a 4 game winning streak to reach the final. Lost in an extra end to Team Sethi from Potomac. Not bad for a group of guys that all started last year, congrats to Rob, Joel, Karl and Mike.

The Nutmeg-Plainfield friendly was also this past weekend. Nutmeg was victorious and we are returning with the trophy until next season. Thanks to all the Plainfield folks for their wonderful hospitality. Always a lot of fun down there.

Nationals start soon and Nutmeg is represented by Charrissa with her team of Janice, Nicole and Rachel. Have fun out there in Hibbing.

The Scotties also starts soon so Mrs. JHcurl will be watching her "favourite" team from Manitoba. She has been emailing with Cathy O. who is trying to convince her to come out to Regina.

Off to the Norfolk mixed this weekend for a bit of curling and a lot of fun. They only have ten teams but it will still be a good party I am sure.
