Multi-media curling

This was the day yesterday.

At the club at 7:30 to scrape, hang out to watch some of the curling to get an idea of how the rocks are now. Home for lunch, interwebz stuff and a quick nap.

Scotties comes on at 3:00 so have to watch that of course. US trials start at 6:00 so Mrs is following on the crackberry. Scores and tweets from Derek.

Dinner, another quick nap. Scotties back on at 10:00 with Team Canada playing. Mrs. following the men's trials games on the crackberry. Jennifer Jones steals two in some end at midnight so I can go to bed.

Today will be much the same. Watching the Scotties, following twitter, listening to the audiocast from the Trials and also have to run up to the club for an ice committee meeting.

Derek is also posting on the Nutmeg blog from the Trials if you are interested.

All curling all the time at for the next week or so.

Lots of curling coming up

The season of champions time of the year has arrived. That means there is a whole bunch of curling on TV and the internet. I have a feeling that next week I won't get a lot of work done and will be moving my laptop in front of the TV.

Starting on Saturday are the US Olympic trials with Nutmeg's own Charrissa playing for a spot in Vancouver. Also starting on Saturday is the Canadian Women's championship, also known as the Scotties. The Scotties will be on the dish so will be watching Cathy O and Team Jones try to defend their title from last year.

On the US side, Team Lin starts the trials on Saturday as well. Loyal fan and husband Derek will be in Denver and will be audiocasting some of the action over the web. For the first time, the semi finals and finals will be broadcast live on Universal Sports. We get that channel on the cable system so will be watching that as well.

Of course, I happen to be at a bonspiel during all of the semi final and final action. Good thing they have satellite at Ardsley. Will be recording the US games for later viewing. With both the Scotties and the Trials being in the West will make for some late nights of viewing.

Scotties and such

Well, the girls win the big prize. Team Manitoba that is, with Cathy O., Mrs. JHcurl's email buddy. We met them a couple of years ago in Halifax at the Canadian Olympic Trials. Mrs. and Cathy O really hit it off. The Scotties win gives them a berth in the next trials. Guess were we will be headed in December of 2009. I expect an email will be coming telling her to get to Vernon for the Worlds. If you ever wanted to attend a curling event, go to the Canadian Olympic Trials. It was unbelievable in Halifax and I am sure the next one will be just as good. Here is a video clip of the last couple of shots.

The Nutmeg Club Championships were held this weekend with teams that are put together by the organizer. The final came down to Derek (of course) and Rob (recent 2nd event runner up at the Dykes). The funny thing is that Rob's team didn't want to face Derek in the final and wanted to forfeit the game. Rob of course bailed them out and the game went to an extra end with Derek the winner.

Okay, three weekends, three bonspiels. The McKay-Douglas at Ardsley, the Stone at Plainfield and then the Greatest Show on Earth, the Golden Handle at Nutmeg. A couple of weeks of league play left then pull the plug. A little clean up and then off to Grand Forks for the Men's Worlds. Spring is approaching.

lots of curling

Just back from Norfolk where we played in the mixed. Won the third event and had a lot of fun. With only ten teams there was no curling Saturday night so we all hung out in the bar and watched the Scotties. Mrs. JHcurl's favorite team was playing so that was fun. Her girls from MB are doing well so far.

Hey, the Rockstar curling website is up and accepting registrations. Go to www.rockstarcurling.com to sign up. Wonder if they want an old guy to make it interesting.

Lots of curling happening with the Scotties and US Nationals. Looks like there may be a new team headed to the Worlds for the men. The women start this morning and it wouldn't surprise me if team Lank makes it this year. Of course, rooting for the home team of Charrissa, Janice, Nicole and Rachel.

Our baseball fans on the Ferbey team lost in the final of the Alberta playdowns. Team Martin beat them three times. Probably still see Dave at the Worlds in Grand Forks as CurlTV will be there.

Lots of bonspiels upcoming with the Douglas at Ardsley, then the PCC stone in Plainfield and the best mixed bonspiel, the Golden Handle at Nutmeg. Gonna play in the GH this year so that will be different. Of course, still have to do the ice thing as well.

Make sure you send fanmail to the teams at the US Nationals.
